About goSolat
The story, purpose, and craft behind the app.
goSolat started as a small experiment back in 2021. During PKP 2.0 (quarantine), I struggled to focus during solat and often lost count of my rakaat. In online support groups, I realized many others faced the same issue. Solat at home was long and quiet, easy to get distracted.
That’s when I began experimenting with machine learning to count rakaat automatically. I tried different approaches: using Apple Watch motion sensors, training ML with images (which could be useful for women in particular), and experimenting with movement data. It was tedious, recording videos for every solat, training models, reading papers — but the idea was simple:
Why isn’t there an app that helps Muslims track solat more easily?
The ML project was just the seed, but from it came goSolat.
The Deeper Realization
In life, we always emphasize the importance of repaying debts of money. Society reminds us again and again about hutang duit. But rarely do we remind ourselves about hutang solat, the missed prayers we owe to Allah.
Solat is more than a ritual, it is our responsibility. goSolat exists to make it easier for Muslims to calculate and track (soon) their missed solat, so that we can repay what we owe with clarity and consistency.
Today
What started as a personal ML experiment has now become a practical platform for Muslims everywhere (insyaAllah). goSolat is built to make calculating our missed prayer easier, to reduce the sense of being overwhelmed, and to give us confidence that we are staying accountable in our ibadah.
goSolat is minimalist and simple, but when it comes to prayer times, it takes minimalism to another level. In fact, I believe it is the only ultra-minimalist prayer time design in the world. No clutter, no distractions, just pure focus on what matters most.
The Journey Ahead
My journey with goSolat is still long. There are many things I want to build, like:
- A dedicated mobile app
- Integration with wearables & devices
- A minimalist qada’ tracker to make repayments more systematic
- More features that help Muslims stay consistent
I’ll keep improving, one step at a time and I’ll try my best, InsyaAllah. It’s a journey, both mine and yours.
